Nancy Marsh, M.H.S., OTR

Clinical Supervisor and Occupational Therapist

 

Nancy is an Occupational Therapist with more than 35 years of experience with children in this community. She received her training at the University of Florida and holds a Bachelor of Science in OT and a Master of Health Science in Pediatric OT.

 

Advanced training and certifications include:-

 

Sensory Integration (SI), Sensory Processing Disorders, Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT), the Therapeutic Listening Program, Auditory Integration Training, Samonas Sound Therapy, and Early Intervention.

 

Nancy worked in the school setting for 15 years as well as the last 20 years in private practice. She was previously honored by the Florida Occupational Therapy Association due to her commitment to the profession of Occupational Therapy. She served on the Board of Family Network on Disabilities of Manasota for over 15 years.

 

Mary Nastan, PT

Physical Therapist

 

Mary is a true Floridian, native-born in Fort Lauderdale and a graduate of the University of Florida in Physical Therapy. She has served on numerous boards, including National-American Hippotherapy Association/Muscular Dystrophy Association, State-Early Development Council and the United Cerebral Palsy Association.

 

Mary has over 35 years of clinical experience in physical therapy with specializations in Hippotherapy, Aquatic Therapy, Pediatric Developmental Therapy, and Cranio Sacral Therapy. 

 

She is also the co-founder of InStride Equine Assisted Therapy.

 

Deborah Smith, OTR/L

Occupational Therapist

 

Debbie is an Occupational Therapist with more than 30 years of experience with children. She has worked in clinic, school and hospital settings.

 

She has advanced training in Sensory Integration and Sensory Processing disorders and Therapeutic Listening. She is also certified in teaching Yoga to children with special needs.


Debbie was awarded the Outstanding Alumni Award for 2012 from the Occupational Therapy Dept at the University of Florida.


Debbie and her husband have four children and three grandchildren. They enjoy yoga, sailing and traveling.

 

Kathy Smith, M.S., CCC-SLP

Speech and Language Pathologist

 

Kathy has 22 years experience as a Speech/Language Pathologist. She has worked in many settings including regular and special education schools, as well as private practice settings in Maryland, California and Florida. Although she has worked with some adult populations, her passion is working with children and their families.

 

Originally from Maryland, Kathy lived in Northern California for six years and has been living in Florida for the past 11 years. She has been happily married for 22 years and has a daughter Emily and a son Zachary.

 

Melissa Myers, OTR/L

Occupational Therapist

 

Missy is an Occupational Therapist with more than 24 years of experience with children. She has worked in a variety of settings, including early intervention, education and the public schools. Missy has received advanced training in neurodevelopmental therapy, as well as other areas of study. She is also a certified infant massage instructor. Missy enjoys teaming with families and other professionals to enhance outcomes for the children she serves.

 

Missy recently moved to the Sarasota area with her husband. Recreationally, Missy and her family enjoy many outdoor activities, as well as cooking and yoga. Missy is an avid reader in her spare time.

 

Cindy Cascio, PT

Physical Therapist

 

Cindy is a Physical Therapist with over 25 years of experince. She has always worked with pediatrips, though not always exclusively. She has worked at Children's Therapy Works for 12 years.

 

Cindy has advanced training in bracing for the pediatric population, also handling and positioning for pediatrics. She is also a Level 1 certified therapist in Hippotherapy.

 

Katherine Hart, M.S., CCC-SLP

Speech and Language Pathologist

 

Kathie has more than 35 years experience working as a Speech/Language Pathologist with the Sarasota County Schools, as well as 15 years experience working as a therapist with Children's Therapy Works.


Kathie's primary focus has been with the preschool population, with emphasis on diagnostics, including multi-disciplinary team assessment. In addition, she has experience providing therapy for preschool and early elementary age children with a variety of exceptionalities, including autism, childhood apraxia, receptive/expressive language disorders, phonological processing and language processing difficulties. Katherine has also participated in ongoing continuing education to address fluency disorders, oral-motor delays, and pragmatic language weakness.

 

A graduate of Kent State University with B.S. in Speech and Hearing Science and post graduate degree from the University of South Florida with M.S. in Communication Disorders.

 

Patricia Heath, PTA

Physical Therapy Assistant

 

Pat is Physical Therapy Assistant who has worked in pediatrics for the last 15 years with Children's Therapy Works.

 

She graduated from St. Petersburg Jr. College with A.S. in Physical Therapy and has worked in hospitals, outpatient clinics, Home Health with the elderly, and schools in Sarasota and Charlotte Counties. She has conducted Hippo Therapy and Pediatric Therapy in homes through the Early Steps program, and in medically fragile daycare as well as in clinics.

 

Karen Comeau, M.A., CCC-SLP

Speech and Language Pathologist

 

Karen is originally from New England and is a graduate of the University of Maine. She provides speech therapy services at local preschool and early intervention clinic locations as well as through early steps in family homes. She has a strong 18 year background working with ages birth to five and their families. Karen is trained in the coaching team model and works with teachers and families to develop high quality speech therapy classroom and home environments.


Karen has served on the Maine Speech Hearing and Language Association as a board member and has been a Speech Language Pathology conference organizer for continuing education within this field and associated fields. Her clinical experiences cover the entire life span, with special interest in families and pre-school children.

 

She additionally serves on the Foundations preschool board in her hometown of Englewood, FL where she resides with her husband and three sons & where they manage their family pizzeria business, "Flatbread of Englewood".

 

Laura Hackle, OTR

Occupational Therapist

 

Laura is an Occupational Therapist with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Florida Gulf Coast University, 2001. She has 10 years of occupational therapy experience, with 7 years in pediatrics. Her specialties include: neuro-developmental disorders including autism spectrum, school-age children and early intervention, sensory integration and behavioral interventions.

 

Laura's work is rooted in occupational therapy's core belief that the activities we do each day become part of us, help shape our minds and bodies, and affect the world around us. In addition to therapy, the occupations shaping Laura's life include gardening, Aikido, and being mother to 1-year-old Zack.

 

Leslie Kahn, M.A., CCC-SLP

Speech and Language Pathologist

 

Leslie received Masters Degrees from New York University and Columbia University in New York City. She has over 33 years of experience in the New York City school system and has over 10 years of clinical experience in Sarasota. She has worked for Children's Therapy Works since 2002 and presently works at Dreams Are Free Catholic School in Sarasota. She has received several awards from the American Speech and Hearing Association for continuing professional education.

 

Shannon Parsons, OTR/L

Occupational Therapist

 

Shannon received her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has 13 years of pediatric experience. She previously worked in the Illinois public schools. She has worked for Children's Therapy Works since 2001 and is presently working at Dreams Are Free Catholic School in Sarasota. She has training in Sensory Integration, Handwriting Without Tears and Therapeutic Listening. Mrs. Parsons lives locally with her husband.

Cheryl Weichert

Reception and Administration Manager

 

Cheryl is the person who will greet you either in person or by telephone when you visit or contact Children's Therapy Works. She is a native Floridian, born and raised in Sarasota.

 

Cheryl has worked in an office setting for the past 10 years. Cheryl is currently seeking a degree from State College of Florida in Business and Marketing.

 

Margaret Dickenson

Accounts and Bookkeeping

 

Peggy is originally from New York City and moved to Sarasota in 1976.  She worked for the County of Sarasota government for 12 years, for an antique clock business for 8 years where she served as bookkeeper and office manager, and at Children's Therapy Works for 14 years, of which 12 years have been as the bookkeeper.  

 

She lives with her husband, Don.
